The next two weeks I'm going to show you how to identify your bodytype, and the best styles to compliment your shape. So that whenever you step into a store, you know exactly what you need to look for.
Now, lets start with the basics. I did a quick search online and thanks to sheknows.com, I found this easy and simple guide that helps explain the most common body shapes, but here's a quick rundown.
We've got 5 main body shapes:
Rectangular: This shape is exactly how it sounds. Your entire body lines up with each other. Meaning, your shoulds, waist, and hips all align.
Style Recommendation: Wear different prints, colors, shapes and patterns that give your body more dimension.
Inverted Triangle: Your shoulders and back are broader than the rest of your body.
Style Recommendation: Add more layers to the bottom half of your body give the illusion of an equally balanced top and bottom.
Apple: Your shoulders, waistline, and hips are around the same width.
Style Recommendation: Wear clothing on the top half of your body that are structured, and will not make that area appear larger. Add flowly and busy clothing that make the bottom half of your body appear larger and more balanced with the top.
Pear: Your hips and thights are wider than your shoulders, and you have a smaller waistline.
Style Recommendation: A lot of women like this shape and try to accentuate the fact that their hips are larger and have a small waist. But some do not. If you prefer more balance, wear more structured clothing on the bottom that will play that area down, and wear layers, patterns and prints that will automatically draw attention upward, as opposed to downward.
Hour Glass: Your hips and shoulders are aligned, you have a very well defined waitline, and your thighs are full but smaller than your hips.
Style Recommendation: This shape honestly is the dream for a lot of women. Most us do what we can to give the illusion that it's the shape we're naturally working with. To play up this shape, wear fitted clothing on the top and bottom to further enhance the shape you have naturally.
Next week I'm going to show you complete looks for each body type, to help you visualize the style recommendation for each one.
